Chikankari is an ancient needlecraft which comprises of various type of stitches . There are 32 types of stitches in Chikankari. Few among them are Bakhiya , Tepchi , Keel Kangan , Murri , Jaali , Phanda , Ghas Patti etc. Combinations of these stitches on the fabrics lend an elusive charm to them. Other adornments include Mukaish/ Kamdani work which can be both of silver and golden, Gotta patti and sequins work.  The jaalis or trellises that are created in chikankari are a unique speciality of this craft. The holes are made by manipulation of the needle without cutting or drawing of thread. Sometimes machine work jaali patches are also used.
