Chikankari in Indian Fashion Shows

This summer chikankari embroidery is the rage be it a salwar, saree or lehenga. The summer collections are being dominated by chikankari which is holding centre stage on the ramps as well.  Many fashion shows for this season are predominantly showcasing this work of art, bringing it back to life and exhibiting it to the rest of the world.

This year the Wills lifestyle India fashion week saw of the most stunning collections in Manish Malhotra’s  “Mijwan Sonnets in Fabric" focusing on chikankari embroidery on various clothing right from salwars, Anarkalis. Lehengas and kurtas as well. Who would’ve thought that the simple and modest chikan work could be transformed to create a line of show stopping garments. Umair Zafar’s summer collection 2014 fashion show in lucknow revived the traditional chikankari embroidery and brought it to the ramp.
